Part 1 of 4-part series on Millenials:

The landscape of the American workforce has transformed radically in recent years in large part due to the arrival of the millennial generation. There is a heaping bushel of reasons why Millennials or Generation Y, as they’re often labeled, should possess a sizable share of the employee roster in your staffing agency.

For starters, consider these statistics.
* 70 million people in the U.S. belong to the millennial generation.
* By 2020, Mills are expected to make up 50% of the workforce and a staggering 75% of the employment landscape by 2025.
* Since 2011 when the first Baby Boomers turned 65, approximately 10,000 Baby Boomers cross the retirement threshold every day.
* Generation X employees, already nine million behind that of Baby Boomers in 2014, cannot fill the gap left by the millions of BBs exiting the labor force.
It’s true their sheer number dictates that Mills must be a large component of any candidate pool. But there are many other reasons for actively seeking candidates born from the early 80’s to the early 2000’s.
Employment through a staffin

g agency is likely to appeal to Millennials because settling into one job for decades doesn’t attract Mills as it did their predecessors. A majority of them report they expect to stay at a job for three years or less which fits well with most staffing agency positions.
And where a slow climb up the corporate ladder toward tenure was the goal for Boomers, Millennials are on a continual journey of learning and stretching and moving on to bigger, better, more exciting endeavors. They seek to gain as many experiences as possible on the quest for meaningful, engaging career options. Again, a good match for temporary work options.
The manufacturing positions that were, in years past, plentiful in the US and quite appealing to Boomers have waned in favor of more service and technology-oriented positions. A trend that Gen Y’ers appreciate as fewer see themselves satisfied with factory work.
And speaking of technology… Referred to as the first generation to cut their teeth on technology, Mills “get” the techy stuff like no one who came before them. And they love, love, love it which makes them incredibly useful to organizations struggling to keep up with the blink-of-an-eye changes in this vital field.
In fact, many staffing experts see the relationship between millennial job seekers and the staffing industry as a perfect marriage.
