Earned social media, sometimes referred to as free media, notes favorable publicity gained through other than advertising (paid media). Social media is an example of grassroots free media. In short, earned media represents what consumers say about you, your company and your brand across social media and elsewhere.
Some media experts call social media the holy grail of earned media because of its unique benefit. It builds organic, authentic proof for your brand that you cannot buy or create directly. Therefore, social marketing adds value because trusted sources are recommending your brand in multiple ways across multiple platforms.
Additionally, you may have heard the phrase—word of mouth advertising. When technology created the ability to explode a brand’s reach via social media, it also became possible to influence or “seed” the impact to that brand.
So, the obvious question is how can you influence social media marketing? Create a social media marketing campaign that plans content that encourages your audience to take action or express themselves exponentially.
