Are you keeping up with the changes in social media marketing? Maybe you were late to the party and are just getting your feet wet in the pools of social media. Or maybe you’re a true veteran. Either way, keeping up with the ever-changing, online world is crucial.
And ever-growing as well. The statistics, according to Statista, are staggering.
- 70% of the U.S. population has at least one social media profile
- Sometime this year, worldwide social media users are expected to reach 2.5 billion
- 59% access social media every day/almost every day
- Over a third of those users check their social media accounts five times a day
Who doesn’t want a piece of that advertising potential? If you’re going to leverage the tremendous power of social media as a marketing tool, however, it’s imperative to stay on top of changes as this beast (a good beast, to be sure) matures.
“Gone are the days when social media marketing was all about increasing your followers. An early sign of success was seeing your followers grow from one day to another. Nowadays, social media marketing has left behind the ages of innocence to go through a more mature phase,” notes Tereza Litsa.
One aspect that hasn’t changed is the versatility and cost-effectiveness social media marketing provides. A very much appreciated fact – especially by small businesses trying to do big things with a tight budget. So, welcome the fact that 97% of marketers utilize social media and note
those changes you can’t afford to ignore.
Facebook –
In early 2018, Facebook launched more than a dozen changes that have the potential to impact marketing costs and results significantly. For example, the new Dynamic Creative feature, a noteworthy change uses Facebook’s algorithms to find the best combination of images, headlines, and text for your Facebook ads. Albizu Garcia outlines the other changes here.
Twitter –
In addition to a new look, in late 2017, Twitter doubled its character limit to 280. “In one fell swoop, Twitter changed the most defining feature of the service: brevity,” notes Yoni Heisler. The decision was hailed as one of the most sweeping in the tech world and was criticized as unwise. Yet the fallout has been positive, with an overall increase in engagement.
Instagram –
The addition of “stories” is making an amazing difference for Instagram users. Just one year after their launch, Instagram Stories surpassed daily SnapChat viewers. One of the perks with Stories? Accounts with over 10,000 followers can now add a link within the feature, a plus over the buried-on-the-profile-page link option in the past.
One can only imagine what’s in store for the social media/marketing relationship in the future. But bet your bottom dollar, keeping up with the changes will pay off.
