Anyone tuned to radio or TV a few days ago couldn’t help but notice the flood of ads for big savings. The blitz impinges closer and closer on Thanksgiving Day.
It is certainly easy enough to get caught up in the holiday hubbub…perhaps, this year especially, since there are only four weeks till Christmas, instead of the usual five weeks. The shopping, decorating, baking, partying, year-end work pressures are definitely looming.
Wikipedia says, [Black Friday’s] “name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. Use of the term started before 1961 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation was made: that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss (‘in the red’) from January through November, and ‘Black Friday’ indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or become ‘in the black.’”
For staffing firms who market seasonal, temporary or contract labor, a bit of the black could turn your direction.
It is also the time of year that many people consider changing jobs, making a fresh start at a new company in the coming year. The talent pool constantly widens, ebbs and ripples.
While adding to the bottom line is attractive, it isn’t the real focus of this message.
Stay calm. Remember what you already know.
The basics work.
During a fluid period, such as this, keep steady at the familiar process. Great blog content and links to social media will satisfy your audience as they hurry about their priorities. It is important to keep them engaged. They will expect you to be consistent even if they are not as reliable.
Remember that your blog is one of your best relationship-building tools. Maybe you can’t hit your readers’ stream of consciousness or wrap up the end of the year in a red velvet bow, but articles that demonstrate you have their best interests at heart will still resonate with them.
