While you’d never dream of abandoning your Facebook business page, the limits of your organic reach can be disheartening. With the competition becoming fiercer each day, content strategies have never been more important.

But before we get started, you do realize a one-size-fits-all approach to social media updates/statuses/general content is a bad idea… right? Simply creating one message and shooting it across all your social media channels may be convenient, but users interact and consume content in a different way on each platform. That’s why each post, tweet, share, update has to be crafted in the particular flavor of that channel.

These Facebook best practices will help you get the most mileage from your business’s Facebook page.

1.Concentrate on quality over quantity. Rather than overwhelming your followers with so many posts, focus on crafting better posts.

a.Photos get people’s attention—the whole “a picture’s worth a thousand words” thing. Upload quality photos, noting these specific dimensions allowed by Facebook:

*News Feed Image: 1200 x 1200 px
*Shared Link Preview: 1200 x 628 px
*Shared Video Preview: 504 x 283 px
b.Use link rather than picture format when you want to direct the reader to a specific page as Facebook gives priority to link formatting.

c.Remove the unsightly link from the text portion of the post.

d.Pay attention to word count (more, please) and character counts (less, please). Studies show posts with 80+ words garner twice the attention of less wordy posts. But limit the characters in a link title  to 100 as anything longer will be cut off.

e.Mix it up with various status updates. Joshua Parkinson shares how-to’s for crafting engaging text-only status updates.

2.Leverage every available option
a.Call-to-action buttons direct readers to specific locations on your website. The seven available options include: Contact Us, Play Game, Book Now, Use App, Watch Video, Sign Up and Shop Now.

Use them all!
b.Smart Publishing allows businesses to search for and share ideas currently trending. Sharing these links connects your target audience with stories most relevant to their interests and needs. HINT:  relevant content keeps readers coming back!

3. Max out the sharing options

a. Allow your fans to help you share content across the web. Implement, and customize where applicable, each of the options Facebook provides that allow users to help spread the word about your business. In addition to the LIKE button Facebook is famous for, there’s also a LIKE box as well as the FOLLOW, SEND and SHARE buttons. Some occasions lend to the anchor text share link approach. The more people share your content on their personal Facebook accounts, the larger your audience will grow.

As Facebook continues to change—and you know it will—adapt and expand your strategies to gain the most traction from this worthwhile marketing avenue.
