First, understand that it is no one’s fault. It’s just impossible to know about the re-fabricated widget that upgraded the manufacturing of drill bits, the polymer that improved the tensile strength of a fly-fishing line, or the organic high-saturation dye for ABC designer’s new collection. Who can physically pay attention to all those new things or the advertising directed at you about them?

More and more images vie for our attention. Have you ever tried to count how many you see? Just thinking about it can make your head ache.

Research says we encounter approximately 5000 marketing messages per day. That’s a lot of clutter to wade through. Don’t forget that includes designs on t-shirts, logos on electronics, and graphics on coffee cups as well as signs at train stations, radio ads, bumper stickers, etc.

Typically, we have been barraged by interruption marketing. You know: you are watching a TV show and a plethora of commercials interrupt the flow of the show demanding your attention (and repeating that demand up to seven times). Many of us skip by the ads or otherwise disregard them. We often consider them background noise. Sadly, the response to increasing ad clutter has been to add clutter.

So how do you break through the clutter?

Consider yourself fortunate because you’re in a service niche. As a staffing firm, you don’t sell product, so you don’t need to compete with the millions of other products on shelves in the universe. You don’t need to succumb to interruption marketing.

Instead, use inbound marketing. This strategy encourages your customers to participate with you as you offer personalization and relevant value for them. That is, you establish relationships.

Think of this simplistic analogy. You meet someone who catches your eye. You decide to go on a first date and learn all you can about the person. You provide a benefit because your companion feels special, that you are genuinely interested in him/her as a person. Because you have persuaded the person of his/her value on your first date, you ask that person for a second date, and so on. A relationship develops. Trust develops.

If it helps you keep appropriate focus on your staffing firm social media marketing activities, consider how you might act on a date with that customer.  Keep contact interesting, fresh and personal. Just like any carefully attended relationship, it pays off over time.
